Pauline Burbidge Allanbank Mill, Allanton, Scotland Materials: Fine cotton fabrics including lawn and plain woven cotton, cotton organdie, silk organza, needle-punched cotton wadding, cotton threads, hand and machine thread. Techniques: Collage including hand and machine stitching, mono printing, fabric painting. Pauline Burbidge has been making quilts for 35 years, an achievement which will be marked this summer by a large retrospective exhibition. She started off making fairly traditional patchwork pieces, but her work has gradually got freer and freer and now she creates large-scale abstract collages inspired by her local landscape.

Pauline Burbidge - one of my quilt heroes - has an exhibition at Farfield Mill in Sedburgh, Cumbria, till April 7th, which incorporates her Quiltscape and Quiltline works. I was bowled over by Pauline's exhibition at Festival of Quilts (and she has a stand there every year), have amassed all her books, and have admired her work since first. Pauline Burbidge was born in in Melbury Osmond, Dorset. In , at the age of seventeen, Burbidge enrolled at Yeovil Technical College to study art and design. After two years at Yeovil, she was accepted into a three year fashion course at London College of Fashion.
